Can I diet alongside my Xenical medication?

Xenical to aid in increasing weight loss does not require a radical dietary review, in fact you can mostly eat as you normally would. For most effective results, however, you should aim to reduce calorie intake by 20% (usually around 600 calories) and try to avoid fatty foods. The body still needs fat, so the reductions should be spread across your three daily meals. There is no fixed or recommended diet to comply with Xenical. Just ensure that you always eat sensibly and healthily.

Do I need to exercise while taking Xenical?

Ideally everyone should exercise, as it is necessary for a healthy lifestyle. Increasing your levels of physical activity in any way, however great or small, is good for you and will help you to reach your dietary goal.

Do vitamin supplements assist weight loss?

Any supplements should be discussed with your doctor. A healthy diet generally precludes the need for vitamin supplements.

Are there any side effects with Xenical?

Xenical's side effects come from the process of blocking the absorption of fat. The unabsorbed fat passes with your regular bowel movements. The following side effects have been noted:

- flatulence
- more frequent bowel movements
- a fatty appearance to stools.

Other side effects may include:

oily leakage from rectum, flatulence, faecal urgency, liquid or oily stools, faecal incontinence, abdominal distension and pain (gastro-intestinal effects minimised by reduced fat intake), tooth and gingival disorders; respiratory infections; fatigue, anxiety, headache; menstrual disturbances, urinary-tract infection; hypoglycaemia; rarely rectal bleeding; very rarely diverticulitis, cholelithiasis, hepatitis, and bullous eruptions

These side effects are gastro-intestinal. Each individual may experience different effects and they usually occur early in the treatment and disappear as the body adapts.

Can I take Xenical alonside other medication?

Studies have not revealed any adverse side effects of taking Xenical together with any other common medications. Trials have been run in both North and South America and Europe with over 7000 patients. However extensive these trials may be you must inform your doctor of any prescription or non-prescription medication or supplement before commencing with this treatment.
