At Ukmedix News but we actually agree with these doctors...

The drug company Roche has failed in its attempt to overturn a ban on advertising its weight loss medication Xenical in Australia. Xenical is a diet drug that can be easily purchased over the counter at all pharmacies in Australia and until recently it was advertised heavily on TV programs all over the country. After the advertisements for the drug appeared during a popular television program called Australian Idol which was being watched by thousands and thousands of impressionable young teenagers all over the nation there was an uproar from doctors and health professionals who said that the medication should not be promoted in this way.

Xenical Advert Ban Confirmed

At Ukmedix News but we actually agree with these doctors because we feel that Xenical is only an extremely effective weight loss medication if it is administered in a responsible and ethical way. From our research we know that people who go and buy Xenical over the counter and do not get good weight loss advice and proper advice about how to use the Xenical drug do not lose as many pounds as other people who have been to their doctors and received quality information about the drug.

Because of the intensive advertising of the Xenical weight loss drug in Australia many people who were not really suitable candidates for the drug and who did not really have weight problems but just wanted to lose a pound of two were pressurizing pharmacists to give them the medication. An independent survey done by a consumer watchdog saw that the vast majority of pharmacists were handing over the drug to individuals who really should not have been using it and who had no obvious weight problem.

Ukmedix News feels that the decision by the court in Australia is in the interest of the public health and should reinforce the perception that Xenical is a serious obesity drug to be used by people who are serious about losing weight. Xenical is not a medication that should be used along with a fad diet but a drug that should be used in conjunction with a low fat, low calorie diet.
