GlaxoSmithKline are keen to promote the Alli drug differently...

The diet drug orlistat called Xenical which is soon to be advertised in the United States of America in a half dose version called Alli is all set to be heavily promoted and advertised. The company that has the licence to sell and market the drug namely GlaxoSmithKline has put aside a budget of $150 million dollars to let the public know all about it.

Alli

Alli is the first weight loss medication that has been okayed by the Food and Drug Administration that does not need a prescription and can be sold over the counter at pharmacies.  GlaxoSmithKline feel that because a prescription will not be required many more people will therefore try the orlistat drug in order to lose weight.

The marketing campaign will involve TV advertisements, mail shots, adverts in magazines and books as well as bill boards and promotional literature being handed out. GlaxoSmithKline also said that some of the cash will be used to educate doctors and health care professionals like pharmacists to understand how the drug works and how it can help people to shed the pounds.

In America there are literally hundreds of weight loss supplements promoted all over the advertising media and GlaxoSmithKline are keen to promote the Alli drug differently and to show that it is not just another gimmick weight loss supplement but a serious medication that has been given a full approval by the Food and Drug Administration.

Australia, where Xenical can be freely sold over the counter there does appear to be a lot of widespread abuse of the drug as people who are not really overweight or obese use it as a lifestyle medication to stop putting on weight. From our research at Ukmedix News we know that orlistat is best administered with a prescription as it needs sensible advice and clear guidelines to work properly for overweight people.

To give credit to GlaxoSmithKline they are not promoting Alli as a drug that will do all of the work for you regarding weight loss but just as a drug that can help you with your weight loss effort and thus the name Alli is designed to be pronounced in the same way as ‘ally’ as in something that can help you. GlaxoSmithKline have produced a book called “Are You Losing It?” to give the public and health professionals all the information that they need about the drug.
