In Australia the Xenical weight loss drug is available over the counter and therefore no prescription is required. This has meant that sales of Xenical have been very good in Australia and Xenical is the best selling weight loss remedy down under but there is a downside to the fact that a doctor is not involved as the drug is clearly being abused. We recently reported on the fact that an independent survey had been done and it was noted that in 80% of cases pharmacies had no objection to selling the Xenical drug to men and women who were clearly not overweight. Xenical is only meant to be sold to men and women who are overweight or obese.

Now the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia has been voicing its opinions and says that those pharmacies that sold the Xenical drug to normal weight people were in breach of the rules and regulations that govern the Society. The PSA said that it was ‘indefensible’ that so many pharmacies were breaking the rules and putting people health at risk.
The problem in Australia is also that the Xenical drug is being advertised so heavily and thus many people are going to their pharmacies and asking for it. This means that the potential for good profits for these pharmacy owners is high and thus they don’t ask too many questions when people ask for it.
The rules in Australia say that pharmacists should explain how the drug works and its side effects but this is obviously not being done. It’s a practical issue too as it is difficult for a pharmacist to explain at an open counter the embarrassing effects of Xenical when there could be other customers around and that is why at Ukmedix News we continue to believe that Orlistat or Xenical should remain a prescription drug.
Only when you have a face-to-face or online consultation can the proper usage of Xenical be explained. People who don’t use Xenical properly do not lose weight and can put their health at risk too. If you use Xenical we urge you to use it responsibly and according to the guidelines as only then will it be effective.
