FDA Still Monitoring Xenical

no proven link between the liver damage and the use of orlistat

In line with correct procedure the United States Food & Drug Administration has undertaken to review 32 individual cases of liver complications in individuals who are using the Xenical weight loss drug made by Roche and also licenced to GlaxoSmithKline. These 32 cases occurred over a nine year period between the years 1999 and 2008 and included six cases of liver failure.

FDA Still Monitoring Xenical

The Food & Drug Administration pointed out that there was no proven link between the liver damage and the use of orlistat which is the active ingredient of Xenical, but in line with correct practice and ongoing monitoring of all medications they would look into the individual cases to see if there were any patterns of health complications. The FDA also said doctors should not change their prescribing habits with regard to Xenical in any way and therefore should continue to give the medication to people who they felt required it.

The FDA in the United States is said to be the strictest drug regulatory authority in the world and drugs are not only tested for safety but also for effectiveness. Once a drug has got full approval the FDA still monitor it and encourage doctors and patients to report any adverse affects they experience when using it.

Since liver failure is a side effect of being obese and hundreds of obese individual suffer from liver failure as a direct effect of their weight problem it is likely that those individuals who reported liver failure when using Xenical actually suffered from the problem not as a result of using the weight loss drug but as a result of the weight problem itself.

Ukmedix News is also committed to not only reporting the good news about individual weight loss medications like Xenical but we want to inform our readers about all aspects including side effects. We feel that by highlighting side effects and giving proper quality information we provide a higher standard of patient care than can be found in the majority of UK pharmacies online and otherwise.
