You may have read about the recent American Food and Drug Administration report which shows that the weight loss drug Xenical is still under clinical review despite having been approved for use. At Ukmedix News we know that this can be of concern to some people who are using the drug or who are considering its use.

We have looked at the evidence at Ukmedix News and seen that the FDA is examining reports that Xenical may be responsible for cases of liver toxicity. Under American law the FDA is legally obliged to look into cases of adverse affects reported when using various medications and in this case liver toxicity was reported in a sufficient number of cases to merit close scrutiny.
It is worth noting however that there is no evidence whatsoever that the Xenical is responsible for the cases of liver toxicity and that liver toxicity is in fact often reported in overweight and obese individuals. It would be worth knowing whether there were more cases of liver toxicity in people with weight problems who were NOT using Xenical than those people who were using it. The FDA will hopefully come up with the answers soon and Ukmedix News will report on it.
The FDA also said that just because they were looking into ‘casual relationships’ between medications and illnesses did not mean that any link had been identified. The FDA which is renowned to be the world’s strictest and most vigilant health authority approved Xenical for use over a decade ago.
The Xenical weight loss medication is a unique drug which works by removing fat from the digestive tract so that it is excreted from the body when you go to the bathroom. It is estimated that with the use of Xenical you can reduce your fat absorption rate by around 1/3.
The pharmaceutical company Roche has the patent for the active ingredient of Xenical, namely orlistat and it is sold as a prescription medication in the United Kingdom.
