A new independent clinical study has shown yet again how effective the Mediterranean diet can be to lower the risk of heart disease and to improve overall health.

The study done by scientists at the Simmons College in Boston noted that women who followed a Mediterranean diet were almost 1/3 less likely to experience heart disease and also thirteen percent less likely to suffer from a stroke when compared to those people whose diets did not follow a Mediterranean pattern. The research was made public in the journal ‘Circulation’.
A Mediterranean diet typically includes a lot of fruit and vegetables, whole grains, healthy natural fat such as olive oil and also a mild consumption of alcohol. You should limit your intake of refined carbohydrates and sweets.
One of the big benefits of a Mediterranean diet is that it can be so varied and that it is tasty. Recently Ukmedix News looked at research which showed that the most important factor for weight loss and weight loss maintenance was counting calories and it was not so important what particular diet that you followed. In view of this it makes sense to follow a Mediterranean diet because it allows you to eat pretty much everything provided you do so in moderation and that you include a good dose of fruit, vegetables and fibre.
One of the reasons why people who follow the Mediterranean diet are less overweight is because they find it easier to stick to because it is an enjoyable diet to follow as opposed to the sort of diet where you eat bland and uninspiring food.
If you are the sort of person who appreciates the finer things in life, the Mediterranean diet is for you. The Italian people for example have some of the most delicious foods in the world and have a passion for eating like no other nation in the world. Begin to eat like an Italian, (the thinnest people in Europe by the way), and you will enjoy life, stay healthy and probably lose weight!
