Xtreme Eating Awards Expose The Calories And Fat

An organization in America called the Center for Science in the Public Interest is doing a great public service by exposing the extremely large calorie counts with certain choices in some restaurants. They have organized Xtreme Eating awards which are given to restaurants that serve huge amounts of fat and calories in individual dishes.

The winner appears to be the Cheesecake Factory which has a Pasta Carbonara with Chicken on the menu which has a colossal 2,500 calories and 85grms of saturated fat. That means that with just one meal, (forget the drink, the appetizer and the desert) you have eaten considerably more than you should eat throughout the whole day. Basically if you had Pasta Carbonara with Chicken and nothing else every single day you’d still put on weight.
Another restaurant which gets an honorable mention in the Xtreme Eating Awards is the Outback Steakhouse restaurant chain which offers a New Zealand rack of lamb coming in at 1,300 calories and 60grms of saturated fat without chips or any other side dishes. It also got a gong for the fact that it contains 1,340 mgrms of salt which is more than 50 percent of the recommended daily allowance.
The California Pizza Kitchen gets a nomination with its Tostada Pizza with 1,680 calories, 32 grms of saturated fat and an eye watering 3,300 mgrms of salt. [That’s about 150 percent of your recommended daily allowance of salt].
If you’ve done a little bit of shopping and feel like a treat you might pop into the Cheesecake Factory and spoil yourself with the Chocolate Tower Truffle Cake. You might convince yourself that after all you did a lot of walking around the shops. However is extremely unlikely that you manage to burn off 1,670 calories and 48 grams of saturated fat! That’s the whole day’s worth of calories in just one slice!
What are these restaurants thinking!!? They should come with health warnings. The fact is that if people knew how calorie laden and fattening these items were the majority of them would not order them and restaurants would probably be forced to remove them from their menus.

Oh, and lest I forget the CSPI were the ones that got fast food establishments to stop using beef tallow and lard (both healthy fats) and substitute vegitable oils, which are full of... trans fats and the highly inflammatory omega 6 oils. They even defended this position.

Its all very well to read these things here, and we thank you for it, but how do we get this out to the world? They should be forced to mention the calories of the item they are advertising and also mention the calories on the menu. It HAS to be mad LAW!
