Ukmedix News would like to warn members of the public not to buy or use a dieting product called Xi Zhi Su after clinical testing showed it to contain dangerous compounds which could be detrimental to health. The testing which was done by the Department of Health in Hong Kong found that not only did Xi Zhi Su contain sibutramine which is the active ingredient of the legal prescription weight loss medication Reductil, but also contained a powerful cancer inducing compound called phenolphthalein. Phenolphthalein had at one time been used to treat people suffering from constipation but was withdrawn from sale after reports of cancer among users.

The medical authorities in Hong Kong said that there was nothing wrong with using sibutramine provided that you got a doctor’s prescription for it and that it had been dispensed by a pharmacy. The weight loss drug Reductil should not be used by certain individuals and so to put it in a slimming product without labeling it is criminally irresponsible and could lead to serious health complications.

Not only was the sale of this product dangerous but was also illegal because it was contrary to the Pharmacy and Poisons Ordinance of Hong Kong which could lead to a hefty fine and a prison sentence. The Department of Health also recommended that individuals who felt unwell after having used the product should go and get a medical checkup. They also advised that any medication for weight loss should always be given to you by a doctor and never purchased online unless you were satisfied that the online pharmacy was legal and it produced valid prescriptions.
