Why YoYo Diets Screw You Up...

the body begins to adapt to the lack of calories and slows down the metabolism

Are you one of those people whose weight fluctuates all the time? People who rapidly gain a few kilos with unhealthy eating binges and then almost as rapidly lose the weight with an obsessive weight loss diet might like to believe that they are in control but in fact are setting themselves up for long term health and cosmetic problems.

why yoyo diets screw you up...

For example people whose weight drops dramatically end up not only losing body mass in the form of fat but also in the form of muscle and anyone knows that if you want to look good you need to have toned muscle.  When the body is starved nutrients for a short while it turns to breaking down lean muscle to get energy and nutrition. One of the best ways to lose weight is to build up a bit of calorie burning muscle so the last thing you want to do is destroy it with a crash diet.

Another reason why yoyo dieting doesn't work is that the body begins to adapt to the lack of calories and slows down the metabolism to extract fat and calories as much as possible from the food you eat. Some nutritionists refer to this as the body going into starvation mode as it tries to fight the rapid weight loss. This is only going to make it much harder for you to get rid of fat and look good.

Another thing which you should know is that when you start to eat normally again your body will still be in starvation mode and therefore will store as much fat as possible from the food you eat meaning that your weight gain will be much more rapid than normal. Research has also shown that losing weight and regaining it plays havoc with your energy levels and also your immune system making you tired and prone to disease.

Add Ukmedix News we would also argue that the reason why yo yo dieting is so counterproductive is that it means you are in a constant state of anxiety and stress about your weight and you are either eating a few sticks of celery or eating junk food both of which are hardly conducive to a fun and satisfying lifestyle.

My life has been yoyo dieting, what do I do now? I find it very difficult when faced with a good excuse to break my diet!
