Weight Loss Product Found With Cancer Causing Chemicals

The latest warning concerning the use of dangerous slimming aids concerns a product called FAT 2 AND 1 BURNERS III. The product which was tested by the Department of Health in Hong Kong was found to contain among other things a compound which has previously been banned because of its link to cancer.

The product which was sold on the internet was purchased by undercover agents working for the Department of Health and subjected to clinical testing which showed that it contained phenolphthalein. This compound which we have previously written about at Ukmedix News was once used as a powerful laxative but was withdrawn from sale after it was shown to be a cancer causing agent.
The Department of Health said that the product should be immediately removed from sale and warned that anyone who had been using it should stop doing so immediately and go and get a medical checkup. They also warned that the product contained sibutramine which is a powerful appetite suppressant that has also been withdrawn from sale following reports that it could lead to cardiovascular risks.
The other point which the Department of Health made was that individuals should never use weight loss products that had an unknown or dubious composition. They stressed that diet and exercise were the first thing to do and that licenced health care providers (doctors) should be consulted before using any weight loss medication.
At Ukmedix News we have always maintained that all weight loss products and supplements should come with a doctor’s prescription rather than from an unregulated internet web site.
At present in the United Kingdom the only prescription weight loss medication available for sale is Xenical which has been put through the rigorous scrutiny of not only the European Union EMEA but also other national medical regulatory agencies like the American FDA. Using unregulated weight loss medication has been shown to kill and to cause serious and potentially permanent health problems.
