With all the diet fads on the market currently being publicised all over the place it can be difficult to know which diet to go for. Each diet always claims to be the best one around and the one that will in fact work this time but who really knows.
They all usually concentrate on one thing whether it is Carbs or sugars, calories or body shapes, blood types or glucose levels; but the key factor is that whatever it is, all diets have to have some kind of hook to draw your attention to them and this is usually more apparent if the writers have a book out flooding the bookstores.
Many diets out there talk about insulin levels and groups of foods, but there doesnt seem to have been any massive change in the way that these diets work. Once you have read all the books you will find that most of these diets tell you to eat less or at least in moderation whilst ensuring to drink lots of water, making sure to exercise, eat more smaller meals frequently rather than few big ones.
But these diet fads and the foods that go with them have short shelf lives. They are spread by advertising, word of mouth and the internet but you generally find that the more outrageous and exiting the diet is, the more PR it will get - these dont necessarily wok but they do sell. Some of the diets that may be familiar to you:
The Egg and banana diet:
Day One - 9 bananas
Day Two - 9 boiled egg
Then alternating every day for 2 weeks and you will definitely lose 10 lbs....hmmm debatable.
The Mayo Clinic way of life:
This will always look really official when you get it as an email or a letter officially from the Mayo Clinic itself and even more believable from its CV department. Its basically a cleaner Atkins and therefore you are made to fill up on the meat, chicken and fish along with the veggies whilst avoiding the carbs etc. Grapefruit juice is a big part of this diet and apparently its a twelve day cycle. This diet also guarantees the 10 pounds in the 12 days but we here at ukmedix just don't think its healthy to eat so much fat in your diet..who knows....
and we all know the good old Cabbage Soup Diet:
This diet says that you can eat as much as you like but unfortunately this is limited to cabbage soup and fruit.
Although this works, we found it to be the most boring diet in the world and some of the smells that came out of our participants - well lets just say...not pleasant!!
And finally the liquid diets such as slimfast - these do work if you stick to them but you must be aware that they are very hard to stick to as you are suddenly limiting your food choices to nothing and that quite frankly is just boring.
We here at UKMedix just believe in the good old balanced diet - everything in moderation and if you don't deprive yourself of anything you will have nothing to binge on. Obviously if you are trying to lose weight just moderate the calories too. GOOD LUCK.
