In Indonesia the Food and Drug Supervising Agency has ordered the immediate withdrawal from sale of 60 traditional medications and food supplements. The various products which are sold in shops all over the country must now be destroyed and agents from the Agency have been given the go ahead to find and confiscate any of the products that they find.

The reason for this order is because the products have been tested and found to contain dangerous chemicals that are not listed on the labeling and which are not licenced for sale. Most of the products which claim to be completely natural are marketed as slimming and weight loss remedies.
The so called traditional medicines and natural weight loss supplements include products called New Pro Slim capsules, Qianjiali slimming pills, Pegal Linu Cap Putri Sakti, Tang Pe Fu powder, King Cobra 10X Stronger powder, Tangkur Buaya Super capsules and World Quick Strong capsules to name just a few of them. At Ukmedix News we have always advised that if you ever come across a weight loss product which has a very suggestive name you should avoid it because it is likely to be dangerous.
The head of the Indonesian Food and Drug Supervising Agency said that when the products had been tested they contained such substances as mephenamate acid, fenilbutason, metamphirone, sibutramin hydrochloride, dexametason and in some cases even analog versions of the active ingredients of erectile dysfunction medication. He warned that the people who sold these products could receive a prison sentence and a large fine and the people who used them could end up dead from the dangerous side effects.
At Ukmedix News we are glad to see that the Indonesian government is clamping down on this dangerous and illegal industry in counterfeit weight loss medication which is thought to be responsible for many deaths around the world every year.
Weight loss medication can be extremely effective but it should be used only with doctor’s advice and a doctor’s prescription. In the United Kingdom the only two weight loss drugs approved for sale by the relevant medical authorities are Reductil and Xenical.
