Many dieters talk about a turning point

Reading weight loss stories can be inspirational for people trying to lose weight and motivate them to continue with their dieting efforts.  One story we recently picked up concerns an eighteen year old boy called Jack Mitchell who weighed an incredible twenty stone at the age of sixteen and who manage to lose over seven stone to get to a normal weight.

Weight Loss Success Story Inspires Others

Jack really knows what it’s like to be overweight and he was bullied by classmates and even in one case by a teacher who picked on him because of his size. He claims that people insulted him in the street and this began effect his confidence and caused him a great deal of stress. Being insulted did not make him eat less but in fact spurred him on to eat even more.

Interestingly Jack says that the big problem he had when deciding to lose weight was not actually depriving himself of food but actually admitting to himself that he had a problem with eating and that he needed help. Ukmedix News has seen research which shows that a lot of overweight and obese individuals have psychological issues that they need to deal with before going on a diet. Very often overweight people refuse to admit that they eat more than other people and try to blame some external issues for the reason that they are overweight such as having a fat gene or an extremely slow metabolism.

Cases like Jack’s highlight the importance of taking stock of your life and approaching weight loss not just from a purely nutritional and dieting point of view but also by asking yourself about what you want from life and admitting that obesity is a big problem for you and that it will stop you becoming the person you want to be.

Many dieters talk about a turning point at which point they realised that their weight was just not sustainable and when they finally woke up to the fact that it was impinging on their quality of life and something needed to be done. For Jack his turning point was when he went to a clothes store and even the extra large sizes were too small for him. At this point he realised that unless he lost weight he would have to have his clothes specially made for him.

Jack now says that he is a different person because he has so much more confidence, a much higher self esteem and a positive frame of mind which has led him to go travelling, enjoy shopping and not to be terrified of socialising with his friends for fear of being embarrassed.

If you are overweight you should remember that anyone can lose weight and there’s no reason why you are any different. Weight loss can be difficult and tough but nobody who ever lost weight ever regretted it and Jack’s story is one of hundreds that we come across at Ukmedix News every year. If you have an inspirational weight loss story why not share it on the Ukmedix forum or write to us and tell us about it.
