Professional athletes must take great care when using medications and supplements that they do not take anything which is banned for use by the World Anti Doping Authority (WADA). Sometimes athletes get themselves into trouble when they take medications which they feel are perfectly harmless but are actually on the list of banned substances.

For example research conducted by Ukmedix News shows that the majority of the public and a great deal of sportsmen and women are unaware that weight loss medications are not allowed to be used by anyone competing in a professional sport. This has meant that innocent users of for example the weight loss medication Reductil having failed doping tests which led to them being dropped by their sponsors and seriously damaging their sporting careers.
The weight loss drug Reductil is really only supposed to be used by people with serious weight problems and therefore the chances of any athlete really needing it are slim as they are unlikely to have been clinically obese prior to testing. In fact the reality is that any athlete who takes weight loss medication is very ill advised. Firstly because any professional athlete should know that in order to perform best it is important that they eat extremely healthily and get regular exercise. If they are doing this they have no need for weight loss medication because this would lead to them being in perfect shape anyway.
Some athletes claim that they took weight loss medication by mistake as did Darius Miles who plays for the National Basketball Association team the Celtics and thus is being faced with a ten game ban. Whatever the case professional athletes should extremely wary about taking vitamins, supplements or even having a protein shake without very carefully examining the ingredients because it could end up costing them their career.
