Priscilla's 16,000 Mile Walk

Exercise is the only thing that really works for her to lose weight...

Remember the Fat Man Walking? Now it is the turn of a couple from Pennsylvania who have decided to go on a 16,000 mile journey to lose weight. Priscilla Houliston who topped nearly 400lb. in weight when she weighed herself in June 2006 has already covered 1,600miles on her epic trip. Her husband who agreed to follow her had previously had to do up her shoe laces everyday as her obesity prevented her from doing so.

Unlike the fat man walking the Houlistan couple are not walking but are cycling and over the last few months have cycled between 30 and 50mi. on most days. Like the fat man walking they are trying to highlight the issue of being obese and are promoting the message that it is feasible to cure yourself of obesity with a simple diet and exercise.

The target of the walk is that Priscilla will lose 250lb. in weight and the couple intend to visit all American states and cover the complete coastline of the United States of America. The trek started slowly with Priscilla only able to walk half a mile each day but with continued exercise she is now able to go much further on her bicycle.

They still have a long way to go as they have only covered ten percent of the complete intended journey but things are looking good and Priscilla can now claim to have lost 25 percent of her previous body weight. Priscilla says that for her exercise is the only thing that really works for her to lose weight. Many obese people fail to understand that by a diet alone it is going to be difficult to shed a lot of weight and that exercise is vital in order to sustain weight loss over a long period.

Research that we published last week on the Ukmedix News web site shows that people who maintain weight loss are those who go to the gym on a regular basis or at least make some form of conscious exercise like going for a walk every single day.
