The financial implications of obesity are huge

A UK government report that has been leaked to the press shows that about 90 percent of all men will have a BMI of more than 25 some time in the next fifteen years. The report also claimed that 50 percent of men would have a BMI of over 30 in the same time span. The report goes on to claim that in 25 years time 50% of  UK citizens will suffer from obesity. The report went on to state that the threat of obesity to the United Kingdom was at least as big as the threat posed by global warming and weather change.

Leaked Government Report Shows The Extent Of UK Obesity

The real problem of obesity to a nation is not just that its citizens are going to be unhealthy but that productivity will suffer greatly. The financial implications of obesity are huge as not only are very overweight people more likely to report sick but they cost a fortune in health bills which have to be forked out by the state. In the United Kingdom the amount of people who are going to hospital with obesity related illnesses has risen greatly over the last ten years and this is putting a big financial strain on the National Health Service. It is reckoned that the National Health Service will need three times more money to deal with obesity related illnesses over the next ten years and seven times more money by the year 2050 if current patterns continue.

The study which was commissioned by the Chief Scientific Adviser to the UK, Sir David King also concluded that the government was not doing enough to eradicate obesity in the United Kingdom and that a completely new angle of looking at the problem was required if they were serious about reducing the number of citizens with weight problems.
