From our research at Ukmedix we sometimes see well meaning men and women fall into traps that stop them losing weight and even gain more weight. You might be doing most of what is required by you need to be vigilant and check that you don’t do some of the following.
For example many people when they diet cut out fatty burgers and go for healthier foods but forget that they need to watch the calories too. When you are dieting moderation is very important so check those portion sizes and just because something says low fat on it doesn’t meant that you can eat more of it. From other sources we have noticed that dieters often consume more calories when they are on a low fat diet as they think they are eating healthily than when they are eating normally.
Also watch out for snacks! Dieters think that if they have a biscuit or two throughout that day they are not really eating much but these little snacks can add up to more calories than a whole meal over the course of a day. The best snacks are apples or other fruit as they are low in calories and fat, high in satiety value and full of nutrients.
Watch out also for the skipping meals trick that so many dieters think will help them lose weight. While in principle missing a meal will reduce your calorie intake you have to consider that your metabolism will slow down and also you may then overeat at another meal as a result.
While we are all in favour if having a treat or two when dieting don’t extend that treat to a weekend binge of eating. Limit your treats to a sensible amount (say one a week) rather than making them a regular occurrence in your eating plan. If you get used to too many treats they end up losing their novelty value and you’ll get used to them, so be careful.
Lastly and this is an important one. Watch out for what you drink. Many people forget that what they drink can have a big effect on calorie intake. So try to stick to water and stay away from sweetened fruit juices and sugar laden fizzy drinks.
And lastly be honest with yourself about what you eat and drink so that your get a realistic picture of your food consumption. Many dieters kid themselves into thinking that they aren’t eating much when they are in fact eating masses.
