Where Is Trans Fat Found...

Written by Stuart Stevens | Wednesday, 14 March 2007

The important thing to remember is that Trans fat is an artificially made fat...

There’s been a lot of talk about Trans fats these days and we all we realized in the Ukmedix Newsroom that very few people know where exactly to find Trans fats and just presume that Trans fats is found in junk food restaurants like McDonald’s and Burger King. This is not really the case as Trans fat is found in many foods that you would normally consume at home and which can easily be cut out from your diet.

Where Is Trans Fat Found...

For example margarines contain a lot of Trans fat and so you should try to limit your intake of margarines. Foods that are very artificially made like cake mixes also contain higher than normal amounts of Trans fat. Foods like French fries and other foods that are deep fried and come out crunchy are likely to contain a large amount of Trans fat too. Food that you buy in the supermarket which is frozen, things like fish fingers also contain quite a bit of Trans fats. Trans fat is extremely tasty and therefore is very useful to enhance the flavour of otherwise dull food.

The important thing to remember is that Trans fat is an artificially made fat which is created by adding hydrogen to existing cooking oils. Any product that you come across which is not a natural and which is very artificial and processed is therefore going to have a larger amount of trans fat than in naturally occurring food.

The other day (yesterday) we discussed the new diet that is taking Hollywood by storm, namely the Raw Food Diet. We didn’t give the Raw Food Diet the complete thumbs up because the bottom line is that it is impractical however it does contain absolutely no Trans fats whatsoever. If you want to reduce your Trans fats intake you may think of taking a leaf out of the book of the Raw Food Diet and try to eat as much natural and raw food as possible and at the same time limit any unnatural and processed food in your diet.
