According to Doctor Greg Martin who was quoted extensively in the press recently, the United Kingdom is walking into an imminent ‘cancer time bomb’ due to the ever rising levels of obesity in adults. Doctor Martin says that men and women who suffer from an excess of fat around their stomachs will produce more of the oestrogen hormone which in turn will boost the likelihood of growing cancerous tumors.

The vast majority of people in the United Kingdom know for example that smoking can called lung cancer and many other cancers, however most people also are not aware that obesity can be almost as dangerous cancer-wise. There is definitely a lack of knowledge in the United Kingdom about the dangers of being overweight and obese that must be urgently dealt with by the UK government if they are serious about bringing down the numbers of fat people.
Dr Martin was also quoted as saying that he is incredibly frustrated that people do not make the simplest changes to their lifestyles and eating habits which could bring great benefits for their lives. He spoke about small changes in diet and getting a little bit of physical exercise every day which could really improve quality of life for millions of people.
At Ukmedix News we have seen the importance of education and quality information about nutrition and eating habits. Children who are educated about what is healthy for them are less likely to grow up having problems with their weight. The other thing that research has shown is that eating habits are implanted in children when they are young and therefore much emphasis must be put into developing healthy eating habits for the UK’s children early on in life.
The United Kingdom can claim to be one of the most overweight and obese nations in the whole of the European Union. Greece and Malta are two other EU countries that come near the top of the obesity stakes.
