A report that was compiled by the Texas Comptroller, Ms Combs claims that the obesity problem in Texas alone is costing businesses and employers well over $3 billion a year in extra health care expenses, lost days at work due to illness and other related expenses. She based her findings on figures from the year 2005 and it appears like the figures are increasing each and every year. By using projection analysis, the report claims that by the year 2025 the figure for obesity related costs and expenses could reach up to nearly $16 billion. At present almost 2/3 of adult men and women in Texas are either overweight or obese.

The report looked at 30 large companies that were questioned in detail about health care expenses and the causes of people calling in sick. The report recommends drastic action needs to be taken because even though the figures represent the worst case scenario by doing nothing the obesity cost is only set to rise. The reports also went on to say that the state of Texas is suffering economically as a result of obesity and there could be severe financial repercussions in the future if nothing is done.
Of the 150 companies that were asked to be part in the survey only 30 of them agreed to do so which may have affected the figures somewhat. But in any case there is definitely a huge weight problem in Texas and all over the United States of America. Not only is adult obesity on the rise but the number of children who are obese is also rising too. Other research that we have seen at Ukmedix News has shown that children who become obese early on in life very often stay that way right through adulthood and that healthy eating habits and exercise patterns are usually formed at a young age and therefore it is important to educate parents and children.
