Are weight loss teas just a gimmick and a fad or can they really help an overweight or obese person to shed the pounds are lose some weight? Quite a few stories have been coming into the newsroom recently about the effects of green tea on the metabolism and it health properties. Independent testing has shown that it can slightly speed your digestive and body metabolism that means that over the period of the day you may burn a few more calories.
Green tea is also advised by doctors to work as a mild laxative that keeps your digestive system in good shape. It is also full of antioxidants and is a natural and pure product that is a perfect drink after meals that could help you take your mind off eating further.
The worry is that people might think that green tea could make them lose weight on its own so they will convince themselves that by having a cup of green tea after a meal they somehow negate the fact that they have over eaten at the table and are now being healthy by sipping on green tea. We would advise that a cup of green tea is all part of living a healthy lifestyle but is not going to make you lose weight without a weight loss diet being consumed too.
Green tea is not the only weight loss tea around as there are hundreds of teas coming from India and China that are said to detox you and revive you. We have however been receiving reports of weight loss teas from these parts of the world that contain banned weight loss drugs like sibutramine that is the active ingredient of the weight loss drug Reductil.
Sibutramine is an appetite suppressant and so watch out for any tea that claims to reduce your appetite even if it appears that it is a traditional or natural product. These illegal weight loss teas have even been found in reputable natural medicine shops in the UK where retailers unwittingly sell them. They are also sold on the Internet.
To be extra safe, if you really want to have a tea to complement your weight loss plan go for green tea as it is natural and safe and you won’t unknowingly be consuming weight loss drugs that require a prescription or anything dangerous to your health. Green tea can be made to taste even better by adding lemon to it.
