People approach exercise in different ways and immediately at the start of each year health clubs all over the United Kingdom are inundated with new members promising to keep their New Year’s resolutions. The mistake that many people make is that they expect to go from couch potato to fitness guru in just a few weeks if not days. This is unrealistic and that is why so many of them fail.

If you haven’t been to the gym for a long period make sure that the first few times that you go you do not overdo it. Take it easy and enjoy yourself as you get used to running, rowing or whatever you like to do best. Try to incorporate something less stressful like a sauna or swim at the end of your workout. It is important that when you think of the gym you do not just think of pain but also of relaxation and pleasure.
If you over do it at your first attempt in the gym you may well end up with aches and pains for a few days which will put you off going back again. Set yourself targets so that you can slowly build up your exercise stamina. If you do this gradually you may find that in six or seven months time a three times weekly 40 minute run is something you can do extremely easy.
The other thing that stops most people going to the gym is that they claim they don’t have any time. In life as with everything it is all an issue of priorities and when you start going to the gym you must be aware that something will have to give. It may be that you won’t be able to watch your favourite TV program or you should discuss it with your husband or wife and tell them that it will not be possible to be at home early for dinner everyday as you will be working out.
Another thing to be concious of is that many individuals stop going to the gym when they fail to see any noticeable differences in their physique after a certain time. If you start to work out you are not likely to see any serious changes for at least three months but almost immediately you should start to notice that you feel better, have more energy and stamina. The physical aspects will take time to show but in the meantime you will be doing a lot of good to your overall health improving your blood flow, reducing the chances of suffering from heart disease as well as experiencing many other health benefits.
