We are always on the look out for fake weight loss products at Ukmedix and are pleased to hear that the Federal Trade Commission in America is too. Recently they ordered four weight loss drug companies for making false and misleading claims regarding the marketing of their products. In all the 4 companies were fined 25 million dollars and said that the claims that the drugs could do things such as institute rapid weight loss and even reduce the risk of cancer were ridiculous and untrue.
The Chairman of the FTC did however say that the weight loss products could continue to be sold but the outlandish claims of their effectiveness would have to be stopped. In the future the claims of these companies will be scrutinised carefully and any statement must be supported with clear clinical evidence otherwise more fines would be levied against the companies and the advertisers.
The companies that were fined were the manufacturers of Xenadrine EFX, One-A-Day Weight Smart, TrimSpa and CortiSlim. The fines will be used in part to refund some of the people who bought the products.
There are estimated to be around 70 million US citizens trying to lose weight at the moment and many of them turn to weight loss supplements thinking that this will be an easy way out of their predicament. At Ukmedix we know that weight loss supplements rarely help people lose weight and only approved weight loss drugs like Xenical Reductil and Acomplia have been shown clinically to help people lose weight.
For example on the case of the supplement Xenadrine it was seen in testing that those people who took the placebo supplement actually lost more weight than those taking the Xenadrine!
The marketing of these supplements relies on testimonials from customers or celebrities who have been paid to endorse the products. Ukmedix advises that you get a doctor’s advise before using any weight loss supplement.
