You should make a serious effort to avoid processed carbohydrates...

What we eat today varies to what our ancestors used to consume and many scientists say that is part of the reason that so many people are diabetic, overweight, have high cholesterol and high blood pressure problems in the United Kingdom and other areas of the world today. A new report suggests that individuals who have diabetes and other health problems could improve their health greatly by cutting out a lot of modern foodstuffs and supplement their diet for a ‘Stone Age’ diet.

Eat The Stone Age Way

The research that was done at Lund University based in Sweden saw that those people who ate a ‘prehistoric’ variety of nuts, fruits and vegetables as well as lean meat had far better blood sugar levels than those people who ate a healthy Mediterranean diet.  The scientist got fourteen participants to copy the diet of the Palaeolithic hunter gatherers who roamed the world thousands of years ago. Fifteen other participants were also asked to follow a Mediterranean diet consisting of more wholegrain cereals, fruit, vegetables, low fat dairy products as well as unsaturated fats.

The first group reported a 26 percent lowering of blood sugar levels compared to only seven percent for those following the Mediterranean diet. This does not mean to say that the Mediterranean diet is not good for you but only that those who followed the Stone Age diet reported better results which were especially important for those people who suffer from diabetes.

If you have diabetes it is worth taking note of the above and instead of just counting the amount of calories that you eat you should make a serious effort to avoid processed carbohydrates and you should increase the amount of fruit and vegetables that you eat. The number of diabetic people has greatly increased in the United Kingdom over the last 20 years and most worrying me is that many of them are children.
