Experts Say More Emphasis Needed On Sport

When most people talk about the problem of obesity in the United Kingdom they tend to focus on issues like junk food, huge portions in restaurants, unhealthy processed food being sold in supermarkets and the lack of nutritional education given to children. There is no doubt at all that the above greatly contribute to the obesity statistics in the United Kingdom which now are getting close to those of the United States of America.

A new train of thought which is being bandied around in the media a lot recently is that the problem will not be solved by telling people what to eat and trying to vilify fast food restaurants. According to these people the emphasis should not be on telling people what to eat and what not to eat but on getting people to exercise more.
It is without a doubt that the United Kingdom’s population is much less active than it was say 50 years ago. Today people get into a car even for a short journey whereas before a half an hour walk to go to the shops would not have been considered excessive. There is also a much lower emphasis on sports and physical activity in schools today and Gordon Brown’s new government say that they will spend millions of pounds to encourage young people especially girls to get more involved in sports.
Other research that we have studied at Ukmedix News shows that areas where there are poorer facilities for sports are likely to have bigger problems with obesity and overweight teenagers. The United Kingdom needs to invest in sports related activities for very young children and teenagers so that they develop healthy exercise patterns which hopefully they will keep throughout their lives.
Another thing which we have observed that Ukmedix News is that people who get into exercise and start to enjoy it start to feel positive about their bodies and their health and so that a natural progression and inclination to eating healthily occurs.
