A number of people died in the United States after using ephedrine

The Malaysian Ministry of Health has put out a warning regarding the sale of two weight loss products which could be extremely dangerous. The products which are called Bionex and Ju Purt Jen Chin Yen were tested by the drug control authorities in Malaysia and found to contain traces of the prescription only medication sibutramine as well as a dangerous additive called ephedrine.

Sibutramine is the active ingredient in the Reductil weight loss medication and is perfectly safe provided that you get a prescription from a doctor before you use it. On the other hand the other chemical which was added to this dangerous weight loss product namely ephedrine can cause dangerous side effects and would be especially dangerous when used alongside the sibutramine medication.

The Malaysian Ministry of Health warned that using the product could cause dangerous high blood pressure and heart problems.  A number of people died in the United States after using ephedrine and you should stay well away from it.
