If you need proof that a diet of processed foods that is high in sugar and salt is bad for you, you only need to observe new research that has been done in China. It appears that women who eat a diet that is full of sweets, red meat and processed food will more than double their likelihood of developing a certain type of breast cancer called estrogen receptor positive cancer.

For some years the health authorities in China have noted that the number of Chinese women who are getting breast cancer is increasing and this research carried out by the Vanderbilt University called the Shanghai Breast Cancer Study confirms that diet has a big impact on cancer levels. The traditional, natural Chinese diet that is full of vegetables and very much soy based is seen to be far healthier than the western style diet.
Another research project which was conducted by the Fox Chase Cancer Centre based in Philadelphia also confirms the negative effects of a Western-style diet on Chinese women. It was observed that many of the women who did get breast cancer were overweight or obese and this was largely down to unhealthy eating habits. Other studies conducted over the last 2 decades in America have shown that unhealthy diets also can aggravate colon cancer and other hormone-related cancers like prostate and ovarian cancer. The National Cancer Institute of the United States notes that the amount of women who suffer from breast cancer in America is between four and seven times lower in Asia and that this is primarily due to diet.
Research has also shown that very often the first generation immigrants from Asia and Africa have the same cancer risks as those people who live in their native country but after a few generations of living in America and dropping traditional diets and eating habits, the cancer risks increase and become the same as those people who have been residing in America for a very long time.
