At Ukmedix we realise that losing weight is not easy and we have done our own bit of research on why people lose weight and what motivates them to do so. It appears that people are far more likely to lose weight because they perceive that people have a negative perception of them, then they are to lose weight because of the fact that being overweight and obese is unhealthy.

This says a lot about us as a society in that we worry about what we look like more than what the state of our health is. When people start to suffer discomfort and pain or they are hindered from doing as they like because they are obese then they may well be more inclined to lose weight too. We have also noticed that people become very good at living with obesity and running their lives around their obesity problem so that they convince themselves that they are living normally but in fact are being ruled by their weight problem.

Often the first step to take when deciding to lose weight is to have a realistic look at your eating patterns and your lifestyle and face your complexes and fears about your weight. You need to be completely honest with yourself and face facts and then from then you can make a clear plan about what to change and how to go about it.

Many overweight and obese people believe that they have a “fat gene” which makes them more susceptible to put on weight than other people and that this is the real root of their problem. From looking at other research projects it appears that the likelihood of having this so-called fat gene is very slim and that the number of obese people who say they have it is far far greater than those who actually do. Remember that even people who have this very rare gene are able to lose weight and stay slim with a bit of extra effort. Ukmedix says “Never believe that you can’t do it!”
