Omega-3 Fatty Acids Proven To Lower Blood Pressure

Written by Stuart Stevens | Friday, 22 June 2007

People should include a regular dose of omega-3 fatty acids into their diets...

A research project published in the American Heart Association’s journal called Circulation shows that people who eat a regular dose of omega-3 fatty acids are much more likely to have a lower blood pressure than people who don’t. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in natural foods like oily fish, (tuna, salmon and mackerel are particularly good for you), as well as in most nuts and natural oils like olive and canola oil.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids Proven To Lower Blood Pressure

The study that was coordinated by a number of different scientists working in the UK, China, Japan and the United States of America looked at almost 5,000 men and women of the ages of 40 to 60 and examined their diet and blood pressure levels carefully. It was perfectly clear that people who made a point to add omega-3 fatty acids in their diet on a regular basis reported lower blood pressure levels. This is not the first time that omega-3 fatty acids have been noted to have beneficial health properties as some other research projects link the omega-3 fatty acids with a much lower risk of cardio disease in the long term.

According to Dr Stamler from Chicago who was one of the study’s complilers, a very big percentage of men and women over the age of twenty suffer from rising blood pressure levels and these people would do well to include a regular dose of omega-3 fatty acids into their diet.

People who live by the Mediterranean sea and thus eat a lot of fresh fish, nuts and natural oils are noted to have particularly good and healthy hearts in old age and some of the credit for this can be put down to the reality that they eat a lot of omega-3 fatty acids. The Mediterranean diet is also full of fruit and vegetables which also contain lots of essential nutrients for the human body.
