OAP's Get On Your Exercise Bikes!!

According to a number of surveys that we have seen at Ukmedix it is never too late to start getting your body in shape. Many men and women think that when they are say over 50 it is just too late to start an exercise program and to start eating healthily as they say that the damage has already been done and they feel that their bodies will not respond.

It is true that the body will respond slower than it would to exercise when they were 20 but the human body is a very adaptable and versatile thing and even people in their 60’s and 70’s can really benefit from exercise and healthy eating.

One study we say involved seventeen men and women who had BMI’s of over 30 and who were all over the age of 65. The volunteers were given a healthy diet and were asked to participate in group exercise classes. After time those people who followed the program lost on average about 8% of their overall body mass. It was also noted that their bad cholesterol levels were reduced and their good cholesterol levels increased. Those participants with high blood pressure reported a lowering of blood pressure too.

Older people must treat exercise with caution and care and must not overexert especially themselves at an early stage of their exercise. Warming up and gentle exercise is the way forward for older people and heavy weights and strenuous exercise should be avoided.

So if you are old and reading this you have no excuses left now to change your lifestyle and get fit and healthy. A regular walk in the park may be the best way to start exercising and slowly increase the pace and distance that you go everyday. A personal trainer may be of help to you too especially to get you started on a good exercise program.
