The UK NHS Obesity Campaign

The obesity problem in the United Kingdom is even beginning to worry the Prime Minister. Tony Blair is putting himself behind a camapign to get the UK fit and slim and to stop the ever increasing number of people being defined as obese or over weight. He said that the NHS can't cope with the extra strain that it is being put under due to obesity related illnesses and health complications.

Obesity figures are up all over the UK but the problem is worst and continuing to get worse in Scotland where it has been estimated that the obesity of Scottish people costs the nation about a quarter of a billion pounds each year. The numbers also show that about 20% of the UK are in the high risk zone for cardio problems, diabetes and obesity related cancers.

The hew health campaign being launched by Tony Blair is called 'Small change, Big difference' and encourages people to pay alittle attention to their diet and their physical activity. The campaign is full of eating tips such as eating more fruit and vegetables and ways of getting a little exercise like leaving the bus one stop early or taking the stairs instead of always using the lift.

Sometimes by just doing lots of little things you can make a big difference to your weight. If for example you always take the stairs at home or at work you will find that over a week you have exerted yourself quite considerably. The same goes for food tips as a little cutting down at each meal over a week can really make a difference too.

Ukmedix wholeheartedly supports the new anti obesity campaign in the UK and hope that it bears fruit in the near future.
