if you are tired you tend to crave fattier foods

We have actually published other research about the link between obesity and poor sleep and now a new study confirms it. Scientists in Japan have shown that men who get less than five hours of sleep every night are in a much higher risk category of suffering from obesity than those men who get more.

The researchers also looked that blood sugar and saw that those men lacking sleep tended to have higher levels which could eventually lead to suffering from diabetes. They saw that lack of sleep activated a particular hormone which is responsible for triggering appetite.

The study which was led by Professor Yoshitaka Kaneita from the medical department of Nihon University confirms what other studies have shown and also makes clear that tired people go for foods high in calories.

You may yourself have realised that if you are tired you tend to crave fattier foods than if you are relaxed and well rested. If you are embarking on a low calorie diet you should be aware of this and try to get as much sleep as possible. You should also try to live in a calm and stress free environment.

The study examined the diets and sleeping patterns of over 20,000 men over a seven year period and the statistical data shows that men with lack of sleep were 1.27 times more probable to have elevated blood sugar levels.

The researchers did not include women in this study but it is extremely unlikely that the results would be statistically dissimilar for them.
