Weight Loss Myths Debunked

the human body uses calories identically at any time of the day

Everybody has their own theory about diet and anyone who has ever embarked on a weight loss attempt will come up with their own unique angle about how they achieved it. However clinical research shows that many of the “taken for granted” theories do not hold water at all.
For example the theory that you shouldn’t eat late in the evening before going to bed has not been shown to be true in clinical tests. Many dieters make a point of not eating anything after say 8:00pm and say that it is especially important that you don’t eat carbs after this time. Research done in America at the Miriam Hospital in Providence shows that the human body uses calories identically at any time of the day and therefore the idea that calories consumed at night will turn into fat is not true.

At the same time take into account however that eating late at night tends to be an extra meal that you don’t really need and is likely to increase your calorie count for the day to excess levels. Try to regulate the times that you eat and get into a pattern rather than eating at odd hours of the day and night.

Another theory that is put around by dieters is that eating a lot of small meals throughout the day is better than eating two or three meals a day because it means that your digestive system is always working and therefore you will boost your metabolic rate. Again this has not been shown to be true in clinical research and the only thing that seems to fire up your metabolism is having larger muscles. Muscles need energy to function and therefore the bigger they are the more energy they need. Working out at the gym will get you in shape and turn you into a calorie burning machine.

One theory that makes us pretty angry at Ukmedix News is the simple statement that “Pasta makes people fat”.  There is no doubt that a low carb diet can greatly help in reducing body fat in overweight people but carbs are not the only culprit.  If you eat too many calories of any foodstuffs you will end up putting on weight.  Carbohydrates do contain a lot of calories and therefore you should eat them in moderation if you are trying to lose weight however if pasta is something you can’t live without you should include in your diet.

Be careful of all types of carbohydrates especially the refined types such as white bread and try to limit consumption of these to about ten percent of your daily food intake.

Many theories that people come up with to lose weight are those theories that they like to hear. For example people who like to drink coffee would argue that it helps them to lose weight because it suppresses their appetite. While this may be true to a small extent if you drink coffee with milk and sugar you may end up taking in many calories this way, and in any case too much coffee is not going to make you feel well.

Cutting back on the calories is known to be the best way to lose weight but don’t overdo it. Your body may react by harbouring fat stores in your body. The best way to lose weight is to lose it slowly so don’t drastically change your diet for long term weight loss.
