Ukmedix News has written a lot about the benefits of the Mediterranean diet and in fact in the newsroom we reckon that overall for weight maintenance, tasty diet and healthy living it is hard to beat it.

New research is coming to the newsroom concerning a study done in Europe which shows that children who are born to females who consume a diet full of the main components of the Mediterranean diet namely fruit, vegetables, fish and nuts are almost 80 percent less likely to have asthma before they get to the age of six. The researchers compared the women following the Mediterranean diet when they were pregnant with other women who did not follow such a healthy Mediterranean diet while pregnant.
The researchers, while they cannot be 100 percent sure why the Mediterranean diet helps the unborn child it could be that if they are exposed to a higher level of antioxidants before birth they could end up developing very strong and healthy lungs and respiratory systems. The Mediterranean diet is also known to reduce the likelihood of allergies of which asthma is one. Omega 3 fatty acids which are found in a lot of Mediterranean fish such as tuna are also known to have anti-inflammatory properties which have seen to be linked to a lower risk of allergies in children.
Eating healthily when pregnant is obviously extremely beneficial for your child. Doctors advise that pregnant women should make an effort to consume a balanced diet and to stay away from booze and cigarettes. The nine months of pregnancy are the foundations for the eventual health of your child and an extra effort should be made to eat healthily in this period.
One of the advantages of Mediterranean eating is that it is such an enjoyable diet to follow and tastes so much better than many diets which restrict so many foodstuffs.
