Call it what you like but Elizabeth Hurley starved herself in the days before her wedding to Arun Neyer the Indian businessman. According to news reports she went on what she called a ‘Caveman Diet’. The idea with this diet is that you eat like our ancestors did in times gone by when they hunted for food all day and then gorged themselves when they got a kill.

At Ukmedix we have come across this diet before and it is safe to say that if you only eat one meal a day you will almost certainly lose weight. Whether you will be healthy in the long is unlikely however. This diet means that your body will adjust to store fat as much as possible so that you can realise energy throughout the day and also that when you start to eat normally again you metabolism will be very slow and you will absorb more fat than you would normally. All in all the majority of nutritionists will tell you that starvation and binging diets are a bad, impractical and unhealthy way to eat.
If you have been reading Ukmedix News on a regular basis you may know that we have our own Ukmedix Hall of Fame that we induct women into who we feel who diet and exercise healthily. Members include Beyonce and Kate Winslet. Following Elizabeth Hurley’s advocating of her Caveman/Starvation diet she has a long way to before she gets even close.
At Ukmedix we believe in healthy long term approach to diet and not in quick fix short-term solutions. We are prepared to bet that by the time Elizabeth Hurley is back from her honeymoon she will have put all the weight that she lost back on again. Diets that involve quick fix can start a yo yo pattern of weight loss and weight gain that means that you are constantly in a state of weight change that is not healthy and can lead to metabolic problems in later life.
