Lesbians Are More Obese

Your sexual orientation could have a bearing on how much you weigh...

According to researchers in America who were compiling information using statistics from the National Survey of Family Growth your sexual orientation could have a bearing on how much you weigh. The researchers looked at nearly 6,000 females and they said that it was clear that women who were lesbians had a much greater likelyhood of being overweight or obese.

Lesbians Are More Obese

At Ukmedix News we are often surprised by little snippets of information like this that seem irrelevant at face value but nevertheless must have some worth for people who are studying the causes and effects of obesity.

These statistics therefore mean that lesbians are more likely to suffer from diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure as well as many ongoing obesity related diseases like cancer. The researchers were not able to drum up reasons why lesbians were more obese and it is likely that the physical aspects of their sexual orientation is not to blame for their weight issues. It is more likely to be that there is less emphasis on healthy eating and maintaining a good body shape in lesbian circles then in female heterosexual groups.

At Ukmedix News we have seen studies that show that the pressure put on you by your peers can have an extremely big effect on the way you end up looking and in parts of America where there are many many obese people it is much more comfortable for other obese people to be, as opposed to places where the level of obesity is very low.

The authors of this weight loss study said that their research clearly shows that weight loss education and initiatives need to be targeted carefully at specific groups of people where there are more obese men and women so that obesity prevention could be more effective.
