It is a simple fact of life that that excess weight is dangerous...

At Ukmedix News we often talk about the huge cost that the country has to bear when people become obese. Hospitals are overrun with people suffering from obesity related illnesses and the country also suffers as a whole because obesity causes lower productivity.

Health Insurance For The Obese Is Expensive

However one cost which is often overlooked by obese people is the price of private health insurance. According to the Association of British Insurers people who are obese or overweight will have to pay a considerable amount more than normal weight people as they are much more likely to make a claim. Sometimes obese and overweight people are very offended by the notion that they should pay more to be insured however it is a simple fact of life that that excess weight is dangerous to their wellbeing and they should be made aware of it.

Being obese puts you at a much higher risk level for getting diabetes for example or strokes and heart disease which can be extremely expensive to treat and that is why insurance companies insist that obese people pay more.  Obesity is also likely to give you mobility problems as you grow older and could even mean that you have to go around in a wheelchair. It is extremely important to tell your health insurance company if you have gained or lost any weight as this could affect your premiums. If you have gained a large amount of weight it is especially important to inform your health insurance company as should you get sick you may have problems with your insurance claims.

A recent survey done in Australia showed that smoking, drinking and obesity were responsible for close to 1/3 of all hospital admissions and that is why when you sign up for health insurance you are asked so many detailed questions about your lifestyle habits. Your lifestyle is extremely relevant when it comes to determining your health and the likelihood of you getting sick in the future.
