The link between erectile dysfunction and obesity has recently been confirmed yet again following research discussed at the Scientific Meeting of the American Urological Association.

Morbid obesity which is when your BMI is 40+ is known to cause complete sexual dysfunction irrespective of other erectile dysfunction indicators like high blood pressure and diabetes. The researchers in this new study saw that men suffering from erectile dysfunction were cured when they were treated with gastric bypass surgery and lost considerable amount of weight.
For the study 95 men had their sexual function evaluated before surgery and after it using a method called the Brief Sexual Inventory (BSI) which allocates scores to erectile function, sex drive, ejaculatory function and sexual satisfaction. The results clearly showed that overall sexual function was greatly improved by the weight loss and it was noted that the more weight they lost the more the sexual function was improved.
By being overweight or obese not only are you more probable to suffer from erectile dysfunction but you also open up the chances of suffering from diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol and a list of other health problems which in themselves are also directly linked to erectile dysfunction. By staying thin, fit and healthy you are likely to preserve your erectile function well into old age and therefore not need the erectile dysfunction drugs Viagra, Cialis or Levitra. In fact doctors say that your erectile function can often be used as a measure of your overall health.
If you begin to suffer from erectile dysfunction you should maybe evaluate your life style and see whether there are areas you can evaluate to improve your erectile function rather than relying on erectile dysfunction medication. If you are a smoker and you quit you should notice an increase in your erectile function almost immediately.
