The reason why there is an high failure rate with diets and exercise routines is that people pick up some book that tells dieters they have to do this and that, and that they have to do it like this and that, and they don’t consider what they like to do and what makes them feel comfortable.

The word diet conjures up negative images of denial and abstinence of certain foods whereas you should consider your diet as a means of getting you free from the prison of being overweight or obese that comes with illness, loss of mobility, pain, diabetes just to name a few. Don’t concentrate on what you can’t eat but get the list of foods that you can eat.

There are hundreds of different things that you can eat that are all healthy and low fat and low calorie. If you feel like a treat and want to eat a burger, no problem but make sure it is a small one and go easy on the chips and don’t have a dessert as well. Go for a run or a long walk if you feel you overate in one meal and you should burn the extra calories off.

When it comes to exercise again you mustn’t perceive it as a negative thing that you really must do so that you stay slim but find something that you enjoy doing. Walking the dog or playing tennis are all good for exercise routines and if you can train yourself to do something everyday then you are doing fine. The more workouts you do the more you will begin to relish it and the better you will feel. Doing exercise over a longer period will ensure that you stay fit and active in old age and will keep your metabolism going faster.

Think about your lifestyle and how you can change it rather than trying to incorporate a rigid diet into an unhealthy lifestyle because it just won’t work. Losing weight will set you free….it’s definitely worth the effort.
