Recently we have come across a lot of research that shows that children are very often likely to copy the eating habits of their parents. You have how much higher chance of being overweight or obese if you have an obese parent who eats unhealthily and doesn’t take exercise. In the same way it explains why children of parents who are of a healthy and normal weight are also more likely to stay that way all of their lives.

So this might make you think….If you have a weight problem and you have had a weight problem most of your life and you also have children you must be very careful not to pass on any unhealthy eating habits on to them. You may have resigned yourself to your obesity and at your age you may think that it is too late to change your eating habits and you may just find it too difficult to do so, but do not condemn your children to the same unhealthy eating patterns but try and take advice from nutritionist or doctors about what you should feed them and what you should encourage them to eat.
Just because you are not the exercising type doesn’t mean that your children must also be the same, so even if you are overweight or obese and you don’t take any exercise try to get your kids off the sofa and outside doing some exercise. It’ll be alot more difficult for them to get into good habits when they are older than at a young age and so now is the time to really encourage them.
Another thing that we know at Ukmedix from feedback from mothers and all people who feed children is that it is difficult to preach when you don’t practice what you are preaching. If a mother and a father eat unhealthily it is pretty difficult for them to tell their child that he or she cannot eat in the same way as they are. If you need some motivation about why you should lose weight and you aren’t motivated enough to do it for your own good maybe you should consider that if you lose weight and eat healthily and get a little exercise you may set a good example to your children, and thus they will live a healthier and more active life than you are.
