We are great fans of green tea at Ukmedix News, and not just because it has weight loss properties but because we enjoy drinking it. Green tea is not a miracle weight loss tea but just a good digestive aid which can keep the metabolism in good check. By drinking green tea alone you will not shed excess fat and it must always only be considered to be good for weight loss if it is accompanied by a good healthy eating program and regular exercise.

Green tea has been around for hundreds of years in the Far East and has always been thought to be a healthy tonic for various illnesses over there. Green tea is manufactured from the Camellia sinensis plant but unlike normal tea it is not processed so much and therefore is more natural. This way it keeps many more of the natural antioxidants that are present in tea leaves and is therefore good for you. Green tea also has a large amount of polycatechin polyphenols which are said to attack free radicals that are known to be the primary cause of aging and many illnesses.
Without getting carried away, scientists say that with a regular dose of green tea people have a much bigger chance of avoiding diseases and illnesses. Some scientists are even looking at a particular compound called Epigallocatechin gallate that is present in green tea which has been seen to kill cancer cells but not to kill normal healthy cells surrounding them.
This Epigallocatechin gallate compound apparently also interacts with the small amount of caffeine found in green tea and produces a process called thermogenesis in the human body. This means that the body burns very slightly more calories than normal and according to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition this can mean that the amount of calories that you burn over a day can be boosted by as much as four percent. This might sound like a small amount but over a long period it can have a good effect.
