Children love sweet drinks...

There is a lot of discussion regarding whether dieters and people concerned about their weight should drink fruit juices. Some people argue that fruit juices are full of calories and therefore by drinking too much of them can make you put on weight and on the other side of the fence people say that fruit juices are full of nutritious vitamins and healthy antioxidants that should form a part of any healthy diet.

Fruit Juice Study Shows No Link To Obesity

The issue is particularly contentious when it comes to whether children should drink fruit juices. Children love sweet drinks and it is very difficult to stop them drinking high fat and high calorie drinks like coca cola and so parents often give them fruit juices instead. However with so many overweight and obese children in the UK today some health professionals have been advising parents not to give their children too many fruit juices and also to watch out for those which are artificially sweetened.

A new study seen by Ukmedix News looked at children who drank a lot of fruit juices that were 100 percent juice and not sweetened, and overall they had a better consumption of fruit, minerals and vitamins. They were also seen to have consumed less fat, sugar and salt when compared with other children who did not drink a lot of fruit juices. The researchers said that children who consumed 100 percent fruit juices on a regular basis were seen to be healthier than those children who did not but were not necessarily thinner or fatter than the children who did not consume fruit juices on a regular basis.

The reserach that was financed by the Juice Products Association as well as the United States Dept of Agriculture looked at over three and a half thousand kids between the ages of two and eleven. While the survey comes up with some interesting findings it are only looked at the effect of 100 percent fruit juices on diet and did not examine other influences that could be making children overweight or obese.

At Ukmedix News we encourage a balanced diet and fruit juices can play a big part in that, however you must watch out for sweetened fruit juices that can be very high in calories and if you are actually trying to lose weight probably the best action to take is to drink water as well as fruit juices.
