You Eat What Your Friends Eat

the person who goes for a full fat option is often slightly embarrassed

Ukmedix News recently reported on a research project that showed that people who have overweight friends are far more likely to be overweight themselves and that people who have healthy and slim friends are likely to follow their example. What we have noticed at Ukmedix News is that when we go out to eat as a team we all tend to eat the same thing. For example if we decide to treat ourselves to a burger and chips the one person who decide to have a low fat salad and forgo the chips is somehow put under an unspoken pressure to conform and have a burger like the rest of us.

You Eat What Your Friends Eat

In the same way if we all go out for a healthy snack and there is a whole list of healthy salads on the menu the person who goes for a full fat option is often slightly embarrassed about his or her choice. The same goes for starters as if no one orders starters it is rare that one person sticks his neck out and decides to have one.  The same is true when it comes to ordering desserts.

One of our team at Ukmedix News admitted that before he started to work at Ukmedix News he had never been to a restaurant and only ordered a salad. In fact he claims that he had hardly ever eaten a salad or given healthy choices any consideration in his whole life. He says now that the fact that he is involved in writing weight loss articles and that he is aware of the need to eat healthily he has lost weight and is in much better shape.

If all your friends binge on large quantities of food on a regular basis it does make it extremely difficult for you to be the odd one out and order smaller portions of healthier food. However if you set a good example and are consistent with your healthy choices you may find that you will influence your friends and get them to start eating healthy too.
