We love fish at Ukmedix News because from our extensive analysis of diet research we always find that it comes out on top for health eating and weight loss. Fish plays a major part on the Mediterranean diet that is also another favourite of Ukmedix News.

Fish has been in the news quite a bit these days after a survey done in the United States showed that those women who consumed fish in regular basis when pregnant had children with higher IQ and overall better social skills and behaviour when compared to those children whose mothers didn’t eat much fish when pregnant.
The US government advises that a woman should only eat fish 3 times weekly when pregnant and no more and this survey shows that the policy is misguided. The survey that was done by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse & Alcoholism was published in the medical journal the Lancet.
The reason why some health authorities urge that you should not eat too much fish when pregnant is because it is possible that your foetus may take in methyl mercury that is present in fish and that has been linked to neurological issues but this research shows that the women who ate more fish had children with a higher neurological function when compared to the other children.
Fish is a great weight loss food too as it is low in fat, full of protein and very tasty. Fishermen are among the healthiest people in the world and the Japanese fishing area of Okinawa is famous for the fact that its people are the longest living people in the world and they attribute this to their diet of fish.
The FDA in the United States has warned mothers over the last few years to avoid certain types of fish that have high levels of contaminants like swordfish, shark, tilefish or king mackerel. Oily fish has lots of Omega-3 fatty acids and also in vitamins. Fish is less fatty and contains more nutrients than most meat. Ukmedix News says ‘go eat a fish!’
