This should not demoralize overweight and obese people...

New research coming into the newsroom shows that people who are overweight and obese will get less benefit out of doing resistance training than people of a normal weight will. This means that people with weight problems will be at a disadvantage at the gym when compared to their normal weight peers.

Overweight And Obese Exercise Results Lower

The research that was down at the University of Connecticut and which was published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research nevertheless said that people who are overweight and exercise are much more healthy than overweight people who do not exercise. Overall they tested almost 700 men and women having a big variety of different body weights and put them through an exercise program. The exercise involved three months of regular workouts and the results showed that all participants gained muscle strength over the period of the research.  The researchers noted however that normal weight people tended to gain between four percent and seventeen percent more strength and muscle than people who were overweight or obese.

The researchers were keen to make clear that this should not demoralize overweight and obese people and that exercise was still extremely important for them and extremely effective for them to lose weight.

At Ukmedix News we would advise that people who are overweight and decide to work out get professional advice about what sort of work out is best for them. A work out that concentrates on building up muscle may not be the best work out for an overweight person and a professional health trainer can advise you carefully about what is the most effective exercise plan for you. If you are very overweight maybe the best action is to start gently and just make sure that you go for a long walk every single day so that you slowly build up your fitness.
