Last week we reported on the tragedy of a TV presenter in Turkey who after having been using a dangerous and illegal weight loss medication for a couple of months ended up having a heart attack and dying. The case of the Kanal 1 announcer Ertan Geyik has shocked Turkey and the medical authorities there have made a special effort to enforce the law with regard to dubious and dangerous weight loss products.

Pharmacists all around Turkey have been reporting that the police have been visiting their pharmacies and confiscating any of the banned diet medication Lida which is said to have caused his death. For example in Ankara a search of over 200 pharmacies and warehouses netted over 70 packets of Lida. The people who sell the banned weight loss medication have been told that they will not be prosecuted.
Unfortunately it always takes somebody to die before the medical authorities take serious action about enforcing rules with regards to illegal weight loss medications. Lida has been on sale on the internet and in Turkey for many years now and the Turkish government have done next to nothing about stopping its sale. It is possible that many other people have died from using the medication but that their families were not aware of the connection between the drugs and heart attacks.
At Ukmedix News we say that you must never ever take a weight loss medication unless you know exactly what is in it and also that you must never ever take a weight loss medication unless it has been prescribed by a doctor. The Turkish medical authorities said that they would be continuing with their searches of pharmacies around the country and they hoped that people would stop selling the dangerous drug now. At Ukmedix News we do not mean to be cynical but unless the Turkish police enforce the rules regarding these products on a regular basis it will only be a matter of months before another death is announced from a weight loss product.
