NICE Says Get Fit For Healthy Profits

New government guidelines are targeting the growing number of people who work at their desk all day in offices who need to lose weight and get fit. The set of recommendations issued by National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence or NICE have included a section which should help employers and companies with what they have to do so that their workforce gets fit and healthy.

The recommendations are mainly simple ones that are plain common sense but it appears that often it has been ignored in many offices all over the UK as the obesity problem continues to escalate all over the country. For example companies will be asked to provide bike sheds and showers as an incentive for people to bicycle into work and they are also being encouraged to get people to use the lift in office blocks instead of always using the lift.

The recommendations also come with the idea that by implementing these ideas the companies should be able to come more efficient and productive as they argue that healthy staff will eventually lead to better motivation and healthy profits. Other surveys seen by Ukmedix have shown that overweight people are more likely to ring in sick and are more likely to be depressed too.

Nice has been busy preparing guidelines for all sectors of the UK population with regard to obesity and many people feel that one of the biggest problems workers have these days is that they sit in front of computer screens all day getting very little physical exercise and burning very few calories.

According to the Dept. of Health they will expect a 14% rise in the obesity numbers over the following 3 years and this will mean that there are 13 million UK citizens classed as obese with a BMI over 30+. The Nice recommendations are geared so that all organisations and people are involved in the fight to beat the UK’s weight problem and only time will tell if the results will materialise.
