Christmas Is Coming....Help..

Written by Stuart Stevens | Thursday, 21 December 2006

Christmas is coming and we know what often happens at Christmas time. Too much good food and wine makes us put on weight. Then the gym closes too and before we know it we have gained more than a few pounds. How can we break the cycle of yo-yo weight gains and cycles that make us slaves to hunger pangs and diets?

People who have been using the sort of diet that deprives them of every sort of tasty food and drink are often the ones who struggle the most at Christmas. If your diet is celery and carrots then the temptation to break your diet is huge, but if you have been eating healthy balanced diet with the odd treat here are there and also keeping up regular visits to the gym than you are likely not to be too worried and tempted at Christmas time.

The secret of weight maintenance at Christmas time is portion control. By all means eat the Christmas pudding but go easy on the brandy butter and don’t have seconds. Also remember that alcohol is fattening too so go easy on the booze too. After a good meal there is no harm in going for a long stroll and try to encourage other family members to do so too. If your gym is open during the Christmas period try to go as it will be harder to get back to fitness after the festive season if you don’t go for say 2 weeks.

Don’t try and lose weight over Christmas because it is the wrong part of year to do so and if you put on say a pound in weight it shouldn’t be the end of the world but try not to get into bad habits that will be hard to break in the New Year. So keep it real, keep exercising, watch how much you put in your plate and you’ll be fine.

Merry Christmas!!
