Children Continue To Be Targeted By Cartoon Characters

eating habits for all of your life are formed in childhood

Despite opposition from health groups and nutritionists, cartoon characters which are easily identifiable by children are still being used to advertise and promote unhealthy food full of fat sugar and salt to young children. We have written about this problem before at Ukmedix News but the practice seems to be continuing which is a little bit worrying. According to a new report done by Which? The Pink Panther, The Simpsons, Brazt and Shrek are all being used by food manufacturers on food that they target at children.

Children Continue To Be Targeted By Cartoon Characters

At Ukmedix News we feel that it is extremely unfair and unethical for food manufacturers and cartoon producers to collaborate like this. Parents have enough problems trying to get their children to eat healthily in today’s environment when there are so many unhealthy food choices around and the very last thing that they need is in your face adverts encouraging their children to eat unhealthy foods. It is not only this but parents who try to steer the children away from these foods become unpopular with their children thus putting more parenting pressure on mothers and fathers.

If the United Kingdom government is serious about reducing the problem with obesity in the country they must first target children. Research has shown again and again that eating habits for all of your life are formed in childhood and therefore an extra effort must be made to encourage children to eat healthily so that they can live the rest of their lives free from obesity and all the obesity related illnesses that come with it.

One company that was singled out for praise by the Which? report was the film producing company Disney. Disney has made a pledge that they will not cooperate with food manufacturers that want to use their cartoon characters to promote unhealthy foods. They have also said that legislation is required to make sure that all companies work together to stop encouraging unhealthy eating habits in children.
